Aphrodisiacs around the world

French Champagne is only one of the many beverages that excites us to remember sparkling erotic encounters. Sparkling wine contains alcohol, a well-known life-giving aphrodisiac. But what other things edible and drinkable are available to increase our lust, to arouse our sexual desires, to make us ready, willing, eager…? To make sex feel even better?

One could divide aphrodisiacs into two groups. The well-known, traditional ones that for thousands of years have been used as mood increasers and raising ability across our beloved Tellus, but without scientific backing. The academically proven ones, with exciting chemicals, neurostimulants, that science can help us understand.

Some aphrodisiacs that have been prescribed and used since ancient times: alcohol, apples, artichokes, asparagus, almonds, figs, bananas, strawberries, honey, ginger, saffron, apricots, cherries, coconut, dates, grapes, mangoes, papayas, peaches, pears, plums, pomegranates and raspberries and of course chocolate. There are more elaborate ones, such as animal products, drugs, onions, snake blood and Spanish fly.

The basic needs of the humans, like in all animals, are food and sex. And aphrodisiacs combine the two, and used wisely can work together to put you and your lover in the right mood. They can work their magic, be it mostly by placebo effects, produce forbidden, seductive ideas of the mind and heart, and become a medium to tune your erotic waves to each other.

Read more about the Indian aphrodisiacs, based on ancient beliefs of the Kama Sutra and the Ayurveda, openly used by women wrapped tauntingly but yet elegantly in the shimmering colourful saris of the subcontinent to lure their unknowing victims into bed, by men, perhaps inspired by the sexual orgies depicted in the temple of Khajuraho, in Madhya Pradesh.

Let yourself be inspired when learning more about the concoctions of Asia. Let the fresh, airy, fruity scents of China, where the blood-red fortune of a woman’s kiss might have been the result of an intoxicating but well-balanced aphrodisiac intake.

In Africa, the epicenter of human fertility, there are some well-known substances that might improve your love-making potential and increase the libido.

Any visitor to Brazil, and indeed elsewhere in Central and South America, can not have escaped the seductive, voluptuous, dancing way of leading life. There might be more reasons to that, than meets the eye. Fill your glass with some cachaça, and let’s go exploring!

If you are in the mood, or want to get into it, try one of my delicious non-alcoholic aphrodisiac smoothie recipes.

What lies ahead, is to figure out what keeps the libido up in the inner sanctums of Arab homes, in Russia, in Scandinavia, and all across the rest of the globe. But this will be another journey, if you are willing to take it with me.

Warm kisses from lips filled with the scent of fresh, spicy, juicy fruits and herbs…
